Dental X-rays & Dental Exams
Dental X-Rays
Dental radiographs (X-rays) are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information which might not be visible during a regular dental exam. Dentists use this information to accurately create a treatment plan based on your need. Without X-rays, problem areas may go undetected. Dental X-rays produce a low level of radiation, and we take necessary precaution to eliminate exposure to radiation by using digital sensors and apron shield.
Dental Exams
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. It is recommended that you visit your dentist for routine checkup at least every 6 months, unless advised otherwise.
At regular check-up exams, your dentist will perform the following:
- Examination of diagnostic X-rays (radiographs): Essential for tooth decay, gum disease or any abnormalities.
- Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
- Gum disease evaluation: Check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal (gum)disease.
- Examination of tooth decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with X-ray and dental instruments.
- Examination of existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, etc
After the dental examination, if your dentist finds problem such as cavities or tooth decay, will discuss your treatment options.
